Numerous scholarship opportunities are available to all students who actively participate in band, choir and other musical activities at Hastings College. Through the generosity of alumni and friends, Music Scholarships are available via an audition to those who demonstrate talent.

Let us know you’re interested in a music scholarship by completing this form.

How to Prepare, What to Expect for an Audition

Your meeting with music faculty will be in a welcoming and relaxed atmosphere, but remember, this is your formal audition for a college scholarship so please dress appropriately — you’ll want to make your best impression!

If you choose to play multiple instruments or to play an instrument and sing, we encourage you to prepare one selection on each. Hastings College students are frequently involved in a variety of ensembles and we would love to see all your talent areas.

Following the audition you’ll get to talk with the faculty present. We are happy to answer any questions you have about our programs or about Hastings College!

Audition Requirements

Instrumental
Please prepare two selections in contrasting styles; contest level solos or etudes would be appropriate selections to prepare. Memorization is not required.

Voice
Please prepare two selections in contrasting styles. Appropriate repertoire may include classical, musical theatre or hymn selections. Memorization is preferred.

Piano
Please prepare two selections in contrasting styles with a variety of tempi. Memorization is preferred.

Scheduling Your Audition

We offer music scholarships to students who participate in Music activities, like choir or band. Additional scholarship funds may also be available for students who audition and participate!

If you’re looking to major or minor in Music, you’ll need to complete an audition because our Music program is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM).

You can audition during a campus visit or an arranged time — just let your admissions counselor know.  We also hold Audition Days, and if you audition for our Honor Band and Choir, that can be used for your scholarship audition, too!
