How to Prepare, What to Expect for an Audition

Your meeting with music faculty will be in a welcoming and relaxed atmosphere, but remember, this is your formal audition for a college scholarship so please dress appropriately — you’ll want to make your best impression!

If you choose to play multiple instruments or to play an instrument and sing, we encourage you to prepare one selection on each. Hastings College students are frequently involved in a variety of ensembles and we would love to see all your talent areas.

If you  need of an accompanist for your live audition, one can be provided. Accompaniment parts in the correct key should be sent with annotations (breaths and tempo changes marked, etc.) at least one week before the audition date.

Following the audition you’ll get to talk with the faculty present. We are happy to answer any questions you have about our programs or about Hastings College!

Scheduling Your Audition

You can audition during a campus visit or an arranged time — just let your admissions counselor know.  We also hold Audition Days and if you audition for our Honor Band and Choir, that can be used for your scholarship audition, too!

We offer music scholarships to students who participate in Music activities, like choir or band. Additional scholarship funds may also be available for students who audition and participate!

If you’re looking to major or minor in Music, you’ll need to complete an audition because our Music program is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM).
