The Jackson Dinsdale Art Center (JDAC) at Hastings College will open its fall exhibition season with selected work by Doug Johnson and Kris Mleczko in its west gallery. The exhibition is on display now through Thursday, September 18.
A reception for the artists is scheduled for Friday, September 5, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the JDAC. The JDAC gallery, located at 700 E. 12th Street, is open 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, and noon to 3:00 p.m. on Saturdays. The gallery and reception are free and open to the public.
The exhibition showcases the distinct yet complementary styles of two Nebraska artists.
Kris Mleczko, M.D., is a retired pathologist who has been sketching, drawing and painting since childhood. A native of Poland, he is a self-taught “unapologetic realist” who works primarily in oil on canvas. His passion lies in immortalizing the beauty of nature, people and everyday objects. After a long career in medicine, Mleczko is dedicating his retirement to pursuing his lifelong passion for art and hopes to earn recognition as an artist.
Doug Johnson describes himself as an illustrator of the natural world with an emphasis on craftsmanship. An alumnus of Kearney State College (now the University of Nebraska at Kearney), Johnson has spent more than three decades painting while working “regular” jobs, a testament to his dedication to his craft. He finds inspiration in illustrating the beauty of the world around us.
