SPEAK2Compete speech camp coming to Hastings College

The SPEAK2compete Summer Speech Intensive at Hastings College is a three night, four day experience for students who will be in grades 7-12 this fall. During the camp, students will learn the process of winning in speech and life.

The camp is scheduled for June 27-30, 2019, on the Hastings College campus, and is designed for students at all skill levels, from beginner to advanced. Details and registration information is available at hastings.edu/hcspeechcamp.

“Students participating in the program will learn about the fundamentals and mechanics of speech creation, enabling them to SPEAK2compete,” said Dr. Kittie Grace, camp coordinator. Grace is also a professor of Communication Studies and head coach of the highly successful Hastings College Forensics (speech) team.

“This speech intensive is great way for students to gain confidence in speaking while learning a distinct processes to help them win at life,” she said.

Residential camp tuition is $350 and commuter camp tuition is $300. The cost for both goes up $50 after May 1.

Speech categories offered during the camp include:

  • Oratory
  • Informative
  • Prose
  • Poetry
  • Extemporaneous
  • Humor interpretation
  • Drama interpretation
  • Program oral interpretation
  • Duo (must attend with partner)

Camp tuition includes meals, supplies, evening activities and other items. Housing is included for those choosing the residential option.
