New summer theatre company to produce ‘Little Shop of Horrors’

What the Hastings College Department of Theatre hopes will grow into a full-fledged summer stock company at the college will sponsor its first production, “Little Shop of Horrors.” SummerStage, as the company will be known, will hold its performances in the college’s Scott Studio Theatre (806 N. Turner Ave.) on June 13-16 at 7:30 p.m. and June 15-16 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $10 for general admission and $8 for seniors and students.
Jim Fritzler, Chair of the Hastings College Theatre Arts Department, looks forward to building Summerstage into a tradition which benefits the community and Hastings College students.
“There are very few theatre apprenticeship or intern experiences in Central Nebraska,” said Fritzler. “Our students need the opportunity to experience summer stock theatre for their professional growth. Also, we want to work more with artists in the community which is not possible during the school year.”

A rock musical about Seymour, a florist raising a carnivorous plant he’s named Audrey II, “Little Shop of Horrors” explores human aspirations and desires. It’s been popular in film and on the stage.
