Local artists to open exhibit February 12

From February 12 to February 29, the Hastings College Art Center will feature works by two native Nebraskan artists, Bill Morgan and Dave Stewart. An opening reception featuring both artists will be held Friday, February 12 from 4 to 6 p.m. in the Art Gallery, which is located at 711 E. 9th Street in Hastings.

Dave Stewart is a former Hastings College art student, specializing in three dimensional assemblage and found object art. His work has been featured in juried shows in Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri, Texas, Iowa and South Dakota, including two previous exhibitions at Hastings College.

Stewart said he strives to convey personal thoughts and social commentary in an original way through his art. “I am satisfied when I have presented everyday objects in a one of a kind way,” he said.

Bill Morgan has been active in the Nebraska art community since the early 1970s, starting out in Omaha and currently working in Hastings. He earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Nebraska, Omaha in 1997.

Morgan specializes in two dimensional painting as well as assemblage art.

Reception and the exhibit are open to the public. Regular gallery hours are 8:30 a.m. – 4 p.m., Monday-Friday; noon-4 p.m. on Saturdays; and 2-4 p.m. on Sundays. Admission is free.
