Hastings College sets MLK Day celebrations

Hastings College has scheduled several activities as part of its Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Celebration on Monday, January 17, 2022. All events are free and open to the public, but note that masks are required in campus buildings.

To facilitate opportunities for students and faculty to participate, classes are running on an abbreviated schedule for the day.

MLK Day Events at Hastings College


9:30 to 10:00 a.m.
— MLK Youth Pre-Rally (livestream) in Hazelrigg Student Union

10:00 to 11:00 a.m. — MLK Youth Rally (livestream) in Hazelrigg Student Union

The events above are livestreamed from Lincoln, Nebraska. The annual Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Youth Rally and March theme is “Walk Together” | It’s Up to Us to Take the Steps. 11:30 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. — Held in French Memorial Chapel, this time will feature  student-led readings of MLK speeches; a presentation on Black pioneers in academic disciplines; and a panel of faculty, staff and students on the challenges and successes of inclusive America.

Hastings College is a four-year residential college that focuses on student academic and extracurricular achievement. Hastings’ student-centered initiatives include providing books, an iPad and a two-week study away experience at no additional cost.
