Hastings College music faculty to present eclectic ‘sampler’ recital

Members of the Hastings College music faculty will showcase their talents in a “sampler” recital on Tuesday, August 26, at 7:30 p.m. The performance, which is free and open to the public, will be held in downtown Hastings at The Lark (809 W 2nd Street).

The program includes:

Eckhardt, associate professor of music and director of bands, will perform music by the iconic film composer John Williams and the minimalist American composer Morton Feldman. Eckhardt, an accomplished trumpeter, is the principal trumpet of the Hastings Symphony Orchestra.

Sokasits, professor of piano, will perform selections from the American rock legend Billy Joel and the Irish composer John Field, who is credited with creating the nocturne. Sokasits has performed internationally and has been featured on several recordings.

Rush, visiting assistant professor of music, will perform a dynamic mix of pieces for marimba and snare drum. The selection will feature works by the baroque master J.S. Bach, contemporary composer Elliot Cole and the legendary rudimental snare drum composer John S. Pratt. Rush is a versatile percussionist and educator.

The recital provides an opportunity for the community to experience the diverse talents of the Hastings College music faculty in a relaxed, downtown setting.
