Co-Moderator to lead worship service Saturday, October 28

The Presbytery of Central Nebraska is meeting at Hastings College this weekend. As part of the meeting, a worship service that is open to the public will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 28, in French Memorial Chapel.

The Rev. Shavon Starling-Louis, co-moderator of the 225th General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), will preach and lead worship. Joining for the service will be the Hastings College Choir and a student saxophones group.

Starling-Louis was co-moderator for the assembly with Rev. Ruth Faith Santana-Grace. The moderator, or co-moderators when elected as such, serve as an ambassador of the unity of the Spirit in the bonds of peace, telling the story of the church’s life and upholding the people of God through prayer during the period between assemblies. They serve as co-moderators until 2024.

About Rev. Shavon Starling-Louis

The Rev. Shavon Starling-Louis is co-moderator of the 225th General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). Born and raised in St. Petersburg, Florida, she is a graduate of Saint Leo University with a degree in Psychology. Serving as a church office administrator, campus ministry intern and ecumenical community office administrator led to a call to ministry, and she received her Master of Divinity from Columbia Theological Seminary.

After serving as pastor or co-pastor in several churches in Oklahoma, North Carolina and Rhode Island, Starling-Louis is now senior pastor at Memorial Presbyterian Church in Charlotte, North Carolina. She has written numerous articles and faith formation curriculum for Christian publications, and has served as a church leadership consultant, facilitated numerous workshops and collaborative learning spaces, and is a certified anti-racism facilitator.

Starling-Louis is married to Kirk Louis, and they share two children.
