As part of Hastings College’s Martin Luther King, Jr., Day celebration, Bryan Wright, Principal at Adams City (Colo.) High School, will speak on campus. His lecture, entitled “Martin Luther King, Jr.: The 21st Century Rainbow Coalition”, is scheduled for Monday, January 21 at 10:45 a.m. in French Memorial Chapel (800 N. Turner Ave.). This convocation, which will include music by the Hastings (Neb.) High School Chamber Choir, and all other MLK, Jr., Day events at HC will be free and open to the public.
Following his remarks, Mr. Wright will lead a discussion over lunch at the President’s Dining Room in Hazelrigg Student Union (705 E. 9th St.)
The festivities will conclude with a diversity workshop scheduled for 3:30-5 p.m. in Room C of HSU.
HC’s Multicultural Student Union has organized and sponsored these activities with the hope of facilitating positive discussions on campus about diversity.
Biography for Bryan Wright
Bryan Wright has contributed to the educational system for more than twenty years, most recently as principal of Adams City High School in Colorado. He previously served as principal at Greeley (Colo.) West High School. His extensive background includes improving diverse schools with low attendance rates, large achievement gaps and high discipline rates. He also has specialized training with ESL strategies, Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID), and peer coaching and mentoring. Bryan’s leadership style is one that incorporates students, teachers, parents and the entire community in the education process. He believes that a school’s positive culture relies heavily on the development of ongoing, trusting relationships between staff, students and parents.
