Students inducted into collegiate honor societies, music organizations

Several Hastings College students have been inducted into honoraries this academic year. Groups and students who were inducted are included below.

Alpha Chi, a national collegiate all-discipline academic honor society intended to promote academic excellence and exemplary character among college and university students, inducted five students. The organization accepts only students who place in the top 10 percent of their class from all academic disciplines. Inductees are listed below.

  • Mireia Del Val Fernandez of Hortaleza, Madrid, Spain who is triple majoring in economics, business administration and finance
  • Matthew Houlihan of Omaha, Nebraska, who is majoring in sociology
  • Xander Hazen of McCook, Nebraska, who is majoring in history
  • Marissa Ruiz of Las Vegas, Nevada, who is majoring in wildlife biology
  • Cici Velarde of Loveland, Colorado, who is double majoring in marketing and communication studies

​​Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, the world’s oldest and largest national fraternal society in music, inducted six students. New Inductees are listed below.

  • Clark Boettger of Grand Island, Nebraska, who is majoring in education
  • Owen Perrie of Superior, Nebraska, who is majoring in art
  • Campbell Schukei of Hastings, Nebraska, who is majoring in business administration
  • Jaden Austin Suhr of Lincoln, Nebraska, who is majoring in theatre
  • Christopher Watts-Moore of Beatrice, Nebraska, who is majoring in computer science
  • Caspian Weeden of Pueblo, Colorado, who is majoring in English

Sigma Alpha Iota, an organization that promotes interaction among those who share a commitment to music, inducted three students who are listed below.

  • Maggie DeFreese of Holdrege, Nebraska, who is majoring in education
  • Addison Broz of Hayes Center, Nebraska, who is majoring in criminology
  • Leiah Mueller of Harvard, Nebraska, who is majoring in music education

Three students joined Sigma Tau Delta, an English honor society. Students must have taken at least three English, publishing or writing courses and maintain a GPA of 3.0 or higher, and have completed at least three semesters. Inductees are listed below.

  • Tiene Chu of Cheyenne, Wyoming, who is majoring in psychology
  • Shimar Gibson of Nassau, The Bahamas, who is majoring in computer science
  • Anthony Hernandez of Gardnerville, Nevada, who is majoring in education

The Beta Beta Beta Biological Honor Society welcomed 14 students. Pi Omicron, the Hastings College chapter of Tri-Beta, is for students interested in the biological sciences. Membership requires that students major in biological science, be in at least the second year of a four-year curriculum, complete three semester courses of biology classes (one being upper level) with a B average. Inductees are listed below.

  • Alyssa Baker of Bentonville, Arkansas, who is majoring in biology
  • Kaila Botts of St. Paul, Nebraska, who is majoring in biology

  • Kyla Humphreys of Broomfield, Colorado, who is double majoring in biology and business administration
  • Katyn Kappler of Hastings, Nebraska, who is majoring in biology
  • Morgan Krinke of Lincoln, Nebraska, who is majoring in wildlife biology
  • Riley Lanning of Glendale, Arizona, who is double majoring in psychology and history and philosophy
  • Emma Severson of Hickman, Nebraska, who is majoring in biochemistry
  • Isaiah Strachan of Nassau, The Bahamas, who is double majoring in biology and psychology
  • Marissa Ruiz of Las Vegas, Nevada, who is majoring in wildlife biology
  • Chyenne Tidyman of Holdrege, Nebraska, who is majoring in wildlife biology
  • Christian Wiegert of Grand Island, Nebraska, who is majoring in biology
