Service is spelled B-I-N-G-O for first-year students at Hastings College

As part of their New Student Days orientation, first-year students at Hastings College will be performing community service projects throughout the community on the morning of Saturday, August 25. At 8:45 a.m., students will meet outside French Memorial Chapel (800 N. Turner Ave.) and proceed to their service sites, including College View Assisted Living and Memory Support Community where they will play bingo with residents.

Other projects include cleaning up Heartwell Park and Parkview Cemetery and dismantling discarded Apple computers on HC’s campus and assisting with small construction projects at the Children’s Museum of Central Nebraska.

“Hastings College and the Hastings community both benefit from the service projects on New Student Days,” said Dr. Jean Heriot, Hastings College’s Director of Service Learning. “Community organizations are able to introduce their mission to students and receive enthusiastic workers for their project while HC is able to introduce the importance of an on-going commitment to the community and to serving others to new students.”

Other agencies and institutions benefiting from the students’ enthusiasm and energy include Good Samaritan Village, Kids Against Hunger, Prairie Loft and Catholic Social Service/Open Table.
