Jackson responds to results on special election on 9th Street’s redevelopment

Upon receiving the results of the special election in Hastings, Nebraska, regarding the redevelopment of one block of 9th Street between Elm and Ash avenues, Hastings College President Don Jackson ’70 released the following statement:

“We are grateful to the citizens of Hastings who have voted to allow Hastings College to redevelop this one-block portion of 9th Street that runs through the middle of our campus. We understand this has been a topic of great debate, and we are all thankful the issue has been resolved. We appreciate the efforts of everyone involved. This redevelopment has become central to our overall master plan and future development. After June 1, we will begin to turn this section of the street into the Steinhart Plaza complete with walking paths, a gathering space for students and a memorial to the Steinhart family, the contributors to the former Steinhart Hall of Science. We appreciate the community’s support of our continued growth and success. We look forward to strengthening our relationships and continuing to focus on healthy growth for the College and the community. Thank you.”
