My history with Hastings College
I transferred to Hastings College from a large university in the fall of 1991. I graduated form HC in 1994 with a degree in Business Administration and an emphasis in marketing. Upon graduating, I’ve been raising a family and working in Omaha. I worked at Marian High School for 10 years as Alumnae Director
Why I chose Hastings College as a student
I fell in love with the beautiful campus and smaller school atmosphere at HC. Coming from a large university, I couldn’t believe it when I received an invitation from the chair of the Business Department the first week of school inviting freshman business majors to his home for a barbecue.
Hobbies & Interests
I enjoy walking and running with my family and two golden doodle dogs. My husband (also a Hastings College graduate) and I enjoy doing a fitness boot camp together. We like watching our five children participate in all their activities. You name it, we do it! Our home is also filled with all types of music.
Favorite Thing About Hastings College
From the changing leaves in the fall to the beautiful trees after a snow fall, I enjoy the season changes on campus, it’s beautiful! Homecoming weekend events–especially the parade–I remember fondly. January term is one of my favorite things about a Hastings College education. There are many opportunities to travel or take unique courses and earn additional credits above and beyond the normal schedule of coursework.
My Favorite Place on Campus
When I was a student one of our favorite places during a cold football game was hanging out in the glass blowing studio. It was nice and warm in there and watching someone blow glass is fascinating. Fast forward 20 years and we now have the state of the art Jackson Dinsdale Art Center. My words couldn’t do it justice. It’s FABULOUS! Come see it.
Most Memorable class
Different J-Terms. My sophomore year I studied Music and Art in New York City with Professor Turner McGhee. We went to Broadway shows, The Blue Note Jazz Club, the set of Guiding Light while they were filming and the New York ballet. It was a once in a lifetime experience and we earned college art credit. My junior year I studied fish identification and reef ecology for biology credits and got certified in scuba diving. We traveled to Key Largo Florida for a week!
Favorite Thing to do in Hastings
I enjoy running in beautiful Heartwell Park. It’s also fun to check out what’s happening on Second Street in downtown Hastings. There are lots of shops and restaurants.
Favorite Places to eat in Hastings
I like to eat at local establishments when I am in Hastings. I think the steak burger “Jim’s Special” at the Barrel Bar is amazing, the pizza at Kitty’s Road House and I love lunch or dinner at Odyssey downtown.
We enjoy entertaining in our home and hosting parties.
Best Meal I Can Cook
My family loves when I make my mom’s famous chicken enchiladas.
