Dr. Bruno Penteado

Assistant Professor of French

Ph.D. – Comparative Literature from Brown University
D.E.A.  – French Literature from the Université de Genève.

I specialize in French literature and philosophy, British literature, and literary and critical theory. I am currently working on a manuscript focusing on conceptions of stupidity in continental philosophy and nineteenth-century French and British literatures.

My work has appeared in Mosaic: An Interdisciplinary Critical Journal, Nineteenth-Century French Studies, Forum for Modern Language Studies, and The European Journal of American Culture, among other venues.

At Hastings College, I teach all levels of French language and French and Francophone literatures. I also organize Le Café Français, a monthly gathering of students, faculty, and staff interested in French culture.

When I am not working, you will find me playing piano, cooking intricate dishes, and spending time with Gigi, a 6-year-old boxer.
