You’ll find Hastings College Construction Management graduates working in, managing and operating commercial, residential and highway construction businesses, in addition to construction-related finance and marketing. The tremendous academics and hands-on experiences at Hastings opens doors.

A partnership that benefits you

Our Construction Management program involves a major in Business Administration and minor in Construction Management at Hastings College, plus a partnership with Central Community College in Hastings. Through this partnership you’ll learn the technical aspects of construction while getting hands-on experience — even building a house! — and the leadership, communication skills and business management expertise from Hastings necessary to advance your career with a firm or succeed as an entrepreneurial business owner.

Preparing to manage

Construction managers coordinate and supervise a variety of projects, including the building of residential, commercial, and industrial structures. The Hastings College and Central Community College partnership prepares you to manage:

  • Preparing and negotiating cost estimates, budgets and work timetables
  • Communicating work progress and budget matters to clients
  • Instructing and supervising construction personnel
  • Responding to work delays and emergencies

You’ll help ensure that projects are completed on time and on budget!

Learn the full suite of business skills

You begin with introductory classes in specific business disciplines and conclude with a capstone seminar that integrates everything you’ve learned along the way.

  • Communication
  • Ethics
  • Organizational Dynamics
  • Entrepreneurship
  • Legal aspects of business
  • Financial management
  • Human resources
  • Operations
  • Leadership

Go further with a Hastings education

Thanks to our small class sizes (most have fewer than 20 students!), and a student-to-faculty ratio of 12:1, you’ll work closely with faculty and your advisor to complete your degree in four years. In fact, most students who graduate from Hastings do so in four years!

Our block-style semester structure means you’ll take just one or two classes at a time — which really lets you focus more intently on each class. It also lets faculty devote more time to every student because they’re only teaching one or two classes in a block!

Graduate with experience

At Hastings, Construction Management students serve one and sometimes two internships, including through our exclusive Talent Pool program. All expand their understanding of the world by studying abroad during a two-week block their second year, and many take advantage of the two-week blocks to gather additional experiences and insight that help advance career options.

Every construction management major completes a capstone project, using case studies to solve real-world challenges. What does all this mean? You’ll graduate from Hastings ready to succeed.

At every step in your path you’ll appreciate the stepping stones of teaching, counseling, inspiring, supporting and guiding from our engaged faculty. It’s an experience that’s true to Hastings College and you won’t find it anywhere else.
