Sherrill interns as NAIA sports ‘gatekeeper’

Since right after her graduation in May of 2016, Nikki Sherrill has spent her days overseeing women’s division II volleyball and women's division II basketball for the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletes (NAIA). Responsible for everything from updating ratings, maintaining historic archives and writing press releases related to the sport, Sherrill acts as each sport’s “gatekeeper” in her role as a sports communication and information intern. Experience in Ireland ‘simply amazing’ for students

Every October, students from Hastings College conduct research in Ireland throughout the month as part of a program called Irish Fellows. This program began in 2007 with then Hastings College Dean and Irish literature specialist, Dr. Richard Lloyd. Lloyd had formed a relationship with Grammy-winning musician Davy Spillane, who had performed at Hastings College, and Spillane agreed to be available to the Fellows throughout the month as a resource when needed. Hastings College student Cam Penner had never heard of Hear Nebraska (HN) until Career Services Director Kim Graveitte sent him an email about an internship melding his two loves: the media and music. “After I looked into what they were doing, I instantly felt a connection with its mission of promoting Nebraska music,” said the Broadcasting major who calls Lincoln, Neb., home. Broadcasting major goes ‘on air’ with Clear Channel

You may not know Hastings College student Lauren Sawyer, but you may have heard the Gretna, Neb., native on the radio. During the summer of 2013, she completed an internship with the Clear Channel Radio in Omaha, Neb., and recorded voiceovers for several commercials and public service announcements. “On the first day, the production director explained his job to me and showed me a few new editing techniques, and I asked if I could practice using the software and soundboard,” said the Broadcasting major.
