Zajack to discuss the intersection of decisions, happiness during invited lecture

Imagine hearing your favorite professors speak on the topics they love but might not address in their classrooms. Twice a year, the Hastings College community gets to do just that. Two professors, selected each spring by a vote of HC students and faculty, speak to the community on the topic of their choosing as part of the Artist Lecture Series Invited Faculty Lecture. Considered a prestigious honor for the faulty, this tradition dates to 1985.

Dr. Mark Zajack, Assistant Professor of Psychology, will give the first Invited Faculty Lecture of the 2012-2013 academic year on Friday, September 28, 2012, at 10 a.m. in French Memorial Chapel (800 N. Turner Ave.) He will speak on “Data + Choice = Happiness?” This event is free and open to the public.

Zajack, who was selected to speak by a vote of HC students and faculty last spring, will explore the relationship between decision-making and well-being in his presentation.

“Each day we make hundreds of judgments and decisions,” said Zajack. “However, the thought processes underpinning these decisions are often a mystery to us. This talk explores theories of decision-making and the effects of these decisions on our pursuit of happiness.”

Dr. Kittie Grace, Professor of Communications and Director of Forensics, will give the second Artist Lecture Series Invited Faculty Lecture on April 19, 2013.
