Yuletide activities at Hastings College include 'A Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols'

Participation in Hastings College’s 2012 production of “A Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols” this Christmastime won’t be limited to those able to travel to campus. This year’s celebration will be streamed world-wide at http://ustre.am/Qybz. HC alumni, parents and friends will be able to enjoy performances by several choral ensembles and the HC Bell Choir and readings by campus administrators on Thursday, December 6 at 7:30 p.m.

For those able to travel to campus, the service will be in French Memorial Chapel (800 N. Turner Ave.) The event – both in person and via the internet – will be free and open to the public.

Following the service, the Hastings College Crimson Connection booster club invites all to Hazelrigg Student Union (705 N. 9th St.) for free wassail and cookies.

The framework of “A Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols” dates back to 1880 when Anglican Bishop E.W. Benson composed the original service for Christmas Eve. In the century which followed, the program has been adapted several times. The service has been a part of Hastings College’s holiday traditions since the 1980s when then-President Thomas Reeves introduced it to the community.
