The Personalized Program provides an opportunity for you to plan your own course of study to fit your own personal, academic and vocational needs -- in keeping with the philosophy and purpose of a liberal arts college.
You may enter the Personalized Program after your second semester. To enter the program, a formal proposal is required that includes the rationale for your plan. You'll work closely with a faculty advisor of your choice through the process, which includes review by a faculty committee.
Independent and Directed Study
Independent Study is another way for you to explore areas of interest. It's considered an important feature of our academic program, is required in some majors and is highly recommended if you're planning to enter graduate school. Independent Study is open to juniors and seniors who have a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.5 and an average of at least 3.0 in the field in which the study is being taken. It allows you to take the initiative and conduct original, truly independent work.
Directed Study is similar, but includes greater structure and control provided by your instructor. It also does not have the same prerequisites as Independent Study. Give it a try and explore something new!
