NOTICE OF FACULTY POSITION IN TEACHER EDUCATION (TENURE-TRACK)
DATE OF APPOINTMENT: Late August, 2013.
QUALIFICATIONS: Ph.D. or Ed.D. (preferred, ABD considered) in Education with Elementary and/or Secondary Teaching Experience. Two or more years PK-12 teaching experience required.
THE POSITION: Hastings College seeks an Assistant/Associate Professor of Education. Responsibilities include teaching elementary and secondary courses; general education courses, including multicultural education; supervising and placing students in diverse settings, some of which may involve travel; advising education majors; and serving and participating in department and campus committee work. Teaching load is twelve hours per semester and three hours in the January Term. Hastings College gives highest priority to teaching effectiveness. Willingness to advise, counsel, and work closely with students is essential. Hastings College Teacher Education places high value on collegiality. This is a tenure-track appointment. Academic rank and salary will be commensurate with academic credentials and experience. A comprehensive employee benefit package, including a sabbatical program is provided.
THE DEPARTMENT: Accredited by NCATE since 1964, the Teacher Education program at Hastings College is among the strongest in Nebraska. Approximately 235 students are working toward certification in 37 endorsement areas. The Department operates Hastings College’s only graduate program, leading toward the M.A.T. degree; however, more than 90 percent of the Teacher Education students are undergraduates. There are six full-time faculty members.
THE COLLEGE: Founded in 1882, Hastings College is an independent, coeducational, Presbyterian-related, national liberal arts college with an enrollment of about 1100 students. The student/faculty ratio is 13/1. The median ACT composite of entering students is about 24.
THE COMMUNITY: Hastings (pop. 25,000) is an attractive residential community in South-Central Nebraska, 100 miles west of Lincoln, and 15 minutes south of Interstate 80. The city enjoys good public and private schools, offers excellent professional and community services, and serves as a cultural center for a large surrounding area.
