Hastings College students and faculty have been making music since the beginnings of the College in 1882. During its first century, the Music Department established an enviable reputation throughout the Midwest for its quality programs, dedicated faculty, and talented students. Hastings College's commitment to music is a proud tradition, but also a glimpse into a future where the arts will be an even more important part of the College program.
Hastings College music students can earn a bachelor of music degree with majors in applied performance, music education and piano pedagogy and/or a bachelor of arts degree with a major in music. A new degree option in sacred music has been developed for students interested in serving in a church music ministry.
Strengths of Program
Hastings College is one of the few small colleges in Nebraska to have an accredited program. It is and has been accredited since 1948 by the National Association of Schools of Music. This benefits all students and especially those wishing to pursue graduate work in the music field.
Hastings College music groups and ensembles have traveled internationally and made special appearances at music conferences, schools and churches.
The Music Department is housed in Fuhr Hall. The building includes spacious rehearsal rooms for instrumental and vocal music, a beautiful performance hall and 28 Steinway pianos.
