Dr. John Perlich
Professor of Communication Studies

Dr. Perlich arrived at Hastings College in 1999 and continues to serve the college as a professor, sponsor (for Lambda Pi Eta—Phi Omega), advisor, and forensics coach.

As a recipient of the Faculty Achievement Award in 2002, his teaching evaluations are among the highest on campus and students describe John as “energetic,” “motivating,” “enthusiastic,” “entertaining,” and “thought-provoking.” John would describe himself as tough but student-oriented.

In the last two decades, John has facilitated more top-ranked national forensics teams than most of his peers.  After receiving his Ph. D. from the University of Nebraska in 1997, Dr. Perlich dedicated his energy to serving students through teaching, crafting strong curriculum (even a class studying the potential [and pitfalls] of videogames as teaching tools), and mentoring undergraduate scholarship.

As an advisor of the Lambda Pi Eta honorary, John is especially proud of the “Best New Chapter” award presented to Phi Omega (the HC Chapter of Lambda Pi Eta) by the National Communication Association during their visit to San Diego.

In his spare time, he likes to read and write—John has edited and contributed to two recent publications and is working on a third and fourth project. John (or, “JP”) is married and has two daughters—his office is plastered with family photos.
