Jim Fritzler
Professor of Theatre & Chair of the Department
Jim works professionally as a Director, Musician, Designer and Writer working in theatre and film. He was founding member of Open Channels, the producing wing for DIXON PLACE, the Obie Award winning theatre in New York; was founding member and Artistic Director for the nationally recognized theatre company Big State Productions in Austin, Texas; and has worked as a free-lance artist in theatre across the United States. He has performed as a concert pianist, been a dance accompanist for The Alvin Ailey School, The Hartford Ballet, and the University of Texas. He has previously taught at Southwestern University in Georgetown, TX; and St. Edward’s University in Austin, TX.
He received his BA in Drama/Speech, English Linguistics, Education from Hastings College in Hastings, Nebraska and his MFA in Directing from the University of Texas at Austin under Dr. Francis Hodge.
