Steve Snell graduated from Miami University (of Ohio) in 2006 with a B.F.A. in Painting and a B.S. in Art Education. He then traveled north to the great land of Alaska seeking adventure and eventually becoming the sole art teacher in a remote village called Yakutat. In 2011, he received his M.F.A. in Studio Art from the University of Massachusetts Amherst.

Steve’s work has been shown in galleries and film festivals throughout the Midwest, East Coast, and the South. He is a past recipient of the Yeck College Artist Fellowship from the Dayton Art Institute and was most recently an Artist-in-Residence at the HUB-BUB in Spartanburg, South Carolina.

Now at Hastings College, Snell continues his practice of adventure-art, exploring the mediated and physical reality of American popular culture and his relationship to it. His artistic practice is wide-ranging, utilizing forms of popular and social media, as well as physical performance, video, sculptural installation, and painting and drawing. He says he wants to be a hero, but doesn’t want to do anything too dangerous, so instead he paints, draws, and makes funny videos.
