Michalek Named Teacher of the Year
Tom Michalek was named Hastings Teacher of the Year at the annual banquet of the Hastings Education Association held on Saturday, May 7, 2011. Michalek was chosen from a group of 17 educators nominated by administrators, fellow teachers, staff or parents from the district. Michalek, who teaches music at Morton and Longfellow Elementary Schools holds Bachelor of Music and Master of Music degrees from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. In addition to his work in the public schools, Tom serves as Assistant Director of the South Central Nebraska Children’s Chorale (in residence at Hastings College) and is an adjunct professor of Music.
