PHIVE-O Receives Judy Sandeen Award
The Peer HIV Education Organization (PHIVE-O) received the Judy Sandeen Service Award at Hastings College Annual National Volunteer Week Celebration. PHIVE-O members serve by teaching about issues surrounding HIV/AIDS issues to the campus, the community, and most recently to local high schools, middle schools, and church youth groups.
They also raise funds to help the Nebraska AIDS Project and organize the World AIDS Day events for the Tri-Cities area. Present to receive the award were students Dani Bachman, Meghan Duryea, Colton Kerrigan, Chelsi Pinegar, Jocelyn Schade, and Jenny Sharrick. Other students in PHIVE-O are Helené Flaxbeard, Doug Fruin, Shelia Hansen-Snell, Mark Hewitt, Rachel Heylmun, Kayla Mancini, Kelsi Potts, Megan Pluckett and Kevin Wright.
The recipients of the award were presented with a plaque and $500 to donate to the cause of their choice. Faculty/staff advisors for the group are Kittie Grace and Judy Sandeen. This was the fifth year the award has been presented. The award honors the 30 years of service Judy Sandeen as the Director of Campus Health Services.
