Teacher education group honored by Nebraska’s First Lady

The Extra Mile Walk, a Hastings College Teacher Education group, was selected to receive the 2012 First Lady’s Outstanding Community Service Award in the Service-Learning Program category. Nebraska’s First Lady, Sally Ganem, honored that group on April 18, 2012, at an awards luncheon North Platte.
The students in this group were Liz Bohac, Jason Daffer, Gillian Hogeland, Jacob Hanseling, Jacquette Jenkins, Kate Meisinger, and Dawn Petersen. Among the group’s projects was a fundraising and awareness campaign for the Food 4 Thought Program, completed in 2011 as part of Judy Hall’s Communication, Consultation, and Collaborative Partnerships education class. Funding for the Extra Mile Walk’s project was awarded from a John N. Bergstrom Fund For Servant Leadership Service Learning Grant.
