HC has record enrollment
With on-campus housing at 100 percent capacity, Hastings College has reported an enrollment record as of Oct. 1.
The college reached a milestone in its 129-year history with an official count of 1,240 students enrolled, officials announced Thursday. Driving that number, which includes full-time and part-time undergraduate and graduate students, is a 96 percent total student retention rate, up from 93 percent in 2008. This rate, too, is a record for Hastings College.
"The remarkable efforts of many who preceded me at Hastings College are reflected in these numbers," first-year President Dennis Trotter said in a news release. "I want to thank the admissions, financial aid, student affairs and academic affairs offices for having set and met strong enrollment goals in challenging economic times."
In an interview this morning, Trotter said the college residence halls are at maximum capacity, but all students were able to be housed this year.
"I think the challenges are going into the future," he said. "If we were to grow any larger, we certainly need to come up with some revised and additional space."
