What kind of athlete are you?

I’m dedicated to becoming better in my sport on and off the field. I love to work to become the best I can possibly be.

Each time you go out on the field, what do you think about?

When I go out I always think about how I can work to become a better teammate and player and how can I honor all of the guys who have played here before me.

Who has had the biggest impact on you here at HC?

Coach Holtzclaw has had the biggest impact on me. He has worked countless hours with me to become better on and off the field. He has taught me more about football in the past three years than I learned in the 16 years I have played football. He has become more than a coach to me; he has been a friend.

What Coach Harper has to say:

Derek is a senior offensive lineman for us, a 3 year starter who carries a 3.14 GPA. He makes a lot of our calls on the offensive line and has had to play multiple positions in his time here. Derek is what we are looking for in our football players with his positive outlook and his hard work in the classroom and on the field. I am proud of all that Derek has accomplished in his time here at Hastings College.
