2012 Hastings College Queen Candidates
Elizabeth Case, an English major from Gibbon, Neb., is the daughter of Kenneth and Colleen Case. A dean’s list student, she is a three-year member of the Bronco Marching Band, the symphonic band and wind ensemble. She has also played with the Hastings Symphony Orchestra and as a member of the pit orchestra for Hastings College’s production of “Assassins”. Liz has served on the dorm council at Taylor Hall and was initiated into Alpha Chi academic honorary. She is copy editor for the Collegian newspaper and served as a judge for the Spectrum literary magazine.
Emily Case, daughter of Kenneth and Colleen Case, is an English major from Gibbon, Neb. A dean’s list student, she plays the flute in the HC Bronco Band and the bass guitar in the Jazz Band. A former resident assistant at Taylor Hall and Revive leader, she is active in the Collegian student newspaper, the Spectrum literary magazine where several of her photos have been published.
Christine Hintzman, daughter of John and Carrie Hintzman, is a health systems and criminal justice major from Ft. Collins, Colo. She has been active in several peer education groups including Active Minds and College Acquaintance Rape Educator (CARE) as well as the Student Health Advisory Council (SHAC). The President of Taylor Hall, she also serves as Vice President for Alpha Delta Alpha sorority.
Hannah Jensen from Hastings, Neb., is majoring in piano performance and music education. She is the daughter of Dr. Byron and Deb Jensen. A dean’s list student, Hannah is a member of Alpha Chi academic honorary and Alpha Omega fraternity. For Sigma Alpha Iota music honorary, she has served as vice president. She has served as parliamentarian for the Student Senate and as an officer at Taylor Hall. Hannah is the drum major for the HC Bronco Marching Band in addition to playing in the Bell Choir and the Jazz Ensemble. She also sings in the Hastings College Choir and the Women’s Choir. She received the Alpha Chi Outstanding Female Freshman Award.
Hillary Knake, a studio art major from Elm Creek, Neb., is the daughter of Clint and Leslie Carr. A shooting guard and forward for the HC Bronco Women’s Basketball team, she also competes in the long jump for the Bronco Track and Field team. Hillary is a member of Fellowship of Christian Athletes and Alpha Delta Alpha sorority and previously served as a resident assistant in Taylor Hall.
MaKayla Kort is majoring in art therapy and is the daughter of Shelly Moreno. The Grand Island, Neb., native serves on the Artist Lecture Series (ALS) Student Symposium committee and the Chapel Committee. A member of Alpha Phi Sigma sorority, she plays in the chapel band, sings for the campus Catholic Mass and is in her fifth year as a catechist at St. Mary’s Cathedral in Grand Island.
Frankie Petersen, a health systems major from Cambridge, Neb., is the daughter of Tim and Anita Petersen and Gina Petersen. A dean’s list student, she plays forward on the HC Bronco Women’s Basketball team and is a member of Beta Beta Beta biology honorary.
Betsy Rodgers, daughter of Steve and Elizabeth Rodgers, is a nursing major from Loveland, Colo. She has been active in the Public Relations Council, the Student Association Executive Council, Chi Omega Psi sorority and Fellowship of Christian Athletes. In 2012, she was named the Most Valuable Player on the HC Bronco Women’s Golf team.
Staci Ronhovde, an elementary education major from Eagle, Neb., is the daughter of Tom and Sue Ronhovde. A dean’s list student, she has served on the Artist Lecture Series (ALS) Student Symposium Committee. Staci is a member of the Student Alumni Ambassadors, the Student Education Association and the Student Senate. She also sings with the Hastings College Choir and for campus Catholic Masses.
Emily Wright, daughter of Kent and Bobbi Wright, is a bio-chemistry major from Bridgeport, Neb. A dean’s list student, she is a member of Alpha Chi academic honorary, Beta Beta Beta biology honorary and the HC Bronco Women’s Golf team. She is president of the Hastings College chapter of the American Chemical Society, treasurer for Habitat for Humanity and entertainment co-chair for the Student Association Executive Council.
2012 Hastings College King Candidates
Chip Bartos, a physical education major from Verdigre, Neb., is the son of Nancy Bartos. A member of the Nebraska Army National Guard, he was deployed to Kosovo from January-December 2011. Currently, he is a wide receiver for the HC Bronco Football team. A dean’s list student, Chip also has been involved with Revive Campus Ministry.
Kyle Chesterman, son of Scott and Joanna Chesterman and Jim and Susan Fries, is a strategic communications major from Beaver City, Neb. A dean’s list student, he has been active in campus media including KFKX radio station, the Collegian newspaper and HC Media Online. In 2012, he received the Golden Leaf Media Award for best public affairs program. Kyle sings in the Hastings College Choir and is a member of Pi Rho Sigma leadership fraternity. He serves on the Artist Lecture Series (ALS) Student Symposium committee which he co-chaired in 2012, the Student Alumni Ambassadors and the Student Environmental Action Coalition (SEAC).
Calvin Erven, a wildlife biology major from Scott City, Kans., is the son of Eric and Janelle Erven. A resident assistant at Weyer Hall and a member of Beta Chi fraternity, he plays fullback for the HC Bronco Football team and wrestles at 197 pounds for the HC Bronco Wrestling team.
Seth Fornander, son of Dennis and Lou Fornander, is an elementary and music education major from North Platte, Neb. He is active in the Hastings College Choir, the Jazz Ensemble, the Men’s Choir, the 1-2-5 a cappella group and Sinfonia music honorary. He has contributed to the theatre department by building sets for various productions. Seth has served on the Weyer Hall Dorm Council and on the Peer Umbrella Network (PUN) Council.
Bo Jansa from Wahoo, Neb., is the son of Allan and Julie Jansa and a business administration major. He has been active in the leadership at Weyer Hall and received the Dean Weyer Scholarship in 2012. He is president of Sinfonia music honorary, a member of the Hastings College Band, and active in theatre productions.
Jose Jimenez, a math education, English as a Second Language education and communication studies major from Lexington, Neb., is the son of Hector Jimenez-Valdez and Rosalva Lopez de Jimenez. A national tournament qualifier for the HC Bronco Forensics team, he has been a member of the Student Alumni Ambassadors, the Minority Student Union, the Public Relations Council, the Peer HIV Educators Organization (PHIVE-O) and the Student Senate. Jose is the co-founder of Pi Rho Sigma leadership fraternity, has presented during Academic Showcase Day and received the Spirit of Nebraska Intercollegiate Forensics Association Award.
Nick Masada, son of Drs. Christopher and Erin Masada, is a political science and education major from Lincoln, Neb. A dean’s list student, he is a member of the HC Bronco Men’s Cross Country and Track and Field teams. Nick serves on the Student Judiciary Council and as secretary for the Student Education Association. Previously, he was a member of the Artist Lecture Series (ALS) Student Symposium committee and wide receiver for the HC Bronco Football team.
Coltin Mueller, a criminal justice from Omaha, Neb., is the son of Calvin and Kim Mueller. A three-year linebacker for the HC Bronco Football team, he is a member of the Seventh Street Honors House.
Ben Reimer, the son of Dr. Curtis and Kathy Reimer, is a biology major from Hastings, Neb. A three-year member of the HC Bronco Baseball team, Ben also serves as Treasurer for the Student Association. He has been actively involved in the New Student Days committee, Beta Beta Beta biology honorary, the Public Relations Ambassadors and Big Brothers/Big Sisters. In 2011, he was named the Alpha Chi Outstanding Male First-Year Student. Ben has been a member of the Dean’s list.
Tanner Santarelli, a biology major from Arvada, Colo., is the son of Mike and Geree Santarelli. In addition to volunteering with New Student Days and Big Brothers/Big Sisters, he is a member of the HC Bronco Baseball team and in 2011 was named to the academic national championship baseball team. Tanner has served in the Student Senate, as a Resident Assistant and in Beta Beta Beta biology honorary.
