(Hastings, Neb.) – Each year, Hastings College students vote for two professors to present the Artist Lecture Series (ALS) Invited Faculty Lecture – one professor for each semester.  This year’s second semester honored faculty member is Ben Waller, Assistant Professor of English.  He will give his lecture, “’Death, Thou Shalt Die’: Metaphors for Death from Old English to Monty Python,” on Friday, April 13 at 10 a.m. in French Memorial Chapel (800 N. Turner Ave.)  This event will be free and open to the public.

Ben Waller is from Sacramento, Calif., where he earned his Bachelor’s degree in Linguistics at the University of California at Davis and his Master’s degree in English at California State University at Sacramento. He is completing his doctoral work at the University of Oregon with a dissertation on spatial metaphors in Old English poetry. He is an Assistant Professor of English and has been teaching here since 2007. In addition to his expertise in Medieval literature, Ben studies many other aspects of geekdom, from comic books and science fiction to Harry Potter and Tolkien.
