Hastings College Chapel Schedule for April 2012

(Hastings, Neb.) – Each Wednesday at 10 a.m., members of the Hastings College community meet in French Memorial Chapel (800 N. Turner Ave.) for voluntary chapel services. These services are open to the larger public and free.
The April 2012 schedule includes the following:
April 4 Wednesday, 10:00 a.m. Worship – The Rev. J. Herbert Nelson II and the Hastings College Choir
On the anniversary of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s death, the guest preacher will be the Rev. J. Herbert Nelson II, Director of the Presbyterian Church USA’s Office on Public Witness, Compassion, Peace and Justice Ministry in Washington, D.C.
Rev. Nelson also will participate in HC’s annual Religion in Life series which will focus this year on religion and politics with an emphasis on civil rights.
April 11 Wednesday, 10:00 a.m. Worship – Taizé Service
Taizé is an ecumenical monastery begun in a small French village in 1940; thousands of young people now flock to its annual youth conferences. Brothers from Taizé are coming to Nebraska in preparation for a gathering that is part of the “Pilgrimage of Trust Across the Earth” to take place at DePaul University in Chicago from May 25-28, 2012.
April 18 Wednesday, 10:00 a.m. Worship – Day of Silence service led by Aaron Lauer ‘07 and students of Alliance with music by Dr. Jonathan Sokasits
After graduating from HC, Aaron graduated from the United Theological Seminary of the Twin Cities (Minn.) At HC, Aaron participated in the Soulforce Equality Ride, a nation-wide bus tour designed to engage college students about LGBT issues.
April 25 Wednesday, 10:00 a.m. Worship – Student Sermon Contest with music by the Chapel Worship Band
Attend this service to hear the award-winning student preacher and other participants in the 11th annual Student Sermon Contest. This service will be part of the College’s Academic Showcase.
