(Hastings, Neb.) – For their outstanding research and presentations on various aspects of history, several south central Nebraska students earned Hastings College scholarships during the 2012 District History Day competition held on March 14 at the College. The papers, documentaries, websites, exhibits and presentations all focused on this year’s national theme: “Revolution, Reaction, Reform in History.”
The grand prize for the competition – a $6,000 scholarship, was awarded to Zoey Cook, a student at Hastings Middle School. Her individual exhibit explored “The Germ Theory.”
For their senior group documentary entitled “Amelia Earhart: The Legacy She Left,” Hastings Senior High School students Jamie McCartney, Angela O’Callaghan, Jeni Peterson and Kendra Nichols were named 1st runners up and each awarded $5,000 scholarships. Gabbi Dubas, a student at Hastings Middle School, was named 2nd runner up and thus won a $4,000 scholarship for her historical paper, “The Montgomery Bus Boycott.”
