(Hastings, Neb.) – Hastings College Baseball Coach Jim Boeve received the grand slam of NAIA baseball awards from the NAIA Baseball Coaches Association. During the Rawlings-NAIA Hall-of-Fame and Awards Luncheon on Friday, Jan. 6 at the Baseball Coaches Convention in Anaheim, Calif., Boeve received the 2012 Robert E. "Ish" Smith Achievement Award.
Begun in 1999, the “Ish” Award recognizes an outstanding NAIA coach or administrator “who has demonstrated unselfish promotion of NAIA baseball.” The NAIA previously recognized Boeve in 2010 when he was inducted into the NAIA Hall-of-Fame for meritorious service.
Boeve restarted Hastings College’s baseball program in 1990 and has built it into a perennial conference powerhouse. His players consistently have received recognition at the conference and national levels, including several who have received All-American awards and who have signed professional contracts. Furthermore, the HC Bronco Baseball team, under Boeve’s leadership, has been recognized for its academic strengths.
Hastings College, founded in 1882, is a private, four-year liberal arts institution affiliated with the Presbyterian Church (USA). A total of 64 majors in 32 areas of study and 12 pre-professional programs are offered to more than 1,150 students. Hastings College was named among “America’s Best National Liberal Arts Colleges” by U.S. News & World Report, a “Best in the Midwest” by The Princeton Review, and a “Best Buy in College Education” by Barron’s.
