Donald Schneider knows everything you want to know about the stars –at least those in the sky, perhaps not those on “Jersey Shore.”  The noted astrophysicist and Heartwell, Neb. native will discuss current topics in astronomy on Thursday, Oct. 13th at 7 p.m. in the Morrison-Reeves Science Center (717 N. Ash).  The event is free and open to the public.

Currently, Dr. Schneider, who Chair of the Department of Astronomy and Astrophysics in Pennsylvania State University’s Eberly College of Science, is exploring the properties of massive black holes called quasars.  His other endeavors have included working with international astronomers to create a comprehensive digital map of the sky.  Dr. Schneider was the first person to detect the approach of Halley’s Comet in 1982.
