Hastings College Christian Ministry Scholars

The following outstanding high school students have received Christian Ministry Scholarships to attend Hastings College in the 2011-12 academic year.

The Hastings College Christian Ministry Program offers an academic minor in Christian Ministry, a large variety of co-curricular activities and a community of students committed to discerning their call to service and ministry.

Adam Neely – Lincoln, Neb.
Adam has expressed great enthusiasm about youth ministry. Adam has been stalwart in leading his church’s youth program, and has a desire to reach out to kids who feel like they are on the margins. A Methodist, Adam is planning on majoring in religion and psychology.

Lauren Miller – Leawood, Kan.
Lauren is simply amazing. She feels deeply called to teach and has since she was a child. But she has always felt called to teach in areas of great poverty, both here and abroad. Lauren is open-minded, moderate and from the Presbyterian Church (USA).

Bethany Reed – Hastings, Neb.
ELCA Lutheran, though in her theology she is highly ecumenical. She also wants to be a teacher, but her church life is quite active as well. Bethany participates in worship, she’s involved in youth leadership, and she’s actually done some great work with silence and contemplation. Bethany has a great deal of potential.

Logan Hennning – Seward, Neb.
Logan is extremely bright, has achieved a lot academically, but also expresses a passionate faith. He plans to go into medicine, and already has some well-formed thoughts about improving the health care system in this country. He claims the E-Free tradition as his own, and comes from Seward, NE. Logan knows a great deal, and knows he still has much to learn. It will be wonderful to see the shape of his ministry develop.

Hannah Seagren – Bloomfield, Neb.
Bethany is an ELCA Lutheran with a deep emotional connection to her faith. She wants to go into either criminal justice and psychology or into teaching. Her faith is very personal, and she does not hesitate to express her love for her church community or her work there. Hannah has a great many wonderful qualities to contribute to our program.

Jeana Duncan – Berthoud, Colo.
Jeana is an amazing young woman from that has earned the deep respect and admiration of her peers in her faith and desire for ministry. She wants to go into counseling to help individuals cope through rough times with faith and the tools of psychology. She has an openness, a brightness and a hope that is inspiring and a gift to all who are around her.

The Christian Ministry Program is a major tent-pole of the Center for Vocation, Faith and Service at Hastings College, and has been successfully preparing students for Christian Ministry since 2003. The program has fueled a sharp increase in the number of seminary and graduate school-bound students (over half of which receive full-tuition scholarships for their graduate studies). Christian Ministry scholars are leaders on the Hastings College campus. In leading service organizations, in local churches, in campus religious life, in sports and in their classroom study, these students have won many state, regional and national awards for their work, and continue to exhibit the very best characteristics of what it means to be a Bronco.
