Hastings College to host award-winning glass artist, sculptor
Award-winning glass artist and sculptor Martin Janecky will demonstrate his art form from 9 a.m. to noon, March 7-9 at the Hastings College glass studio and present a lecture on his experiences at 7 p.m., March 7 in the Wilson Center Auditorium.
According to his website, Martin Janecky was born in Liberec, in the Czech Republic, and began working in a glass factory at the age of 13. By the age of 21, he had been blowing and sculpting with glass for eight years and was employed by top designers in South Africa, Sweden, Holland and New York. In 2003, Janecky made his first trip to the United States to work as a demonstrating artist for the Corning Museum of Glass. Since then, he has been asked to share his talents with artists and glass enthusiasts around the world. Janecky is a recipient of the 2006 Kaiser Foundation Award and the 2008 Salvador Dali World Prize for significant achievements in Fine Arts.
