Hastings College to simulcast E.N. Thompson Forum featuring global health fellow Laurie Garrett

Hastings College will host a simulcast of the E.N. Thompson Forum’s “Betrayal of Trust: Critical Issues in Global Healthcare,” presented by Laurie Garrett at 7 p.m., Wednesday, March 9 in the Wilson Center. This event is free and open to the public, and community discussion will follow.

Laurie Garrett is one of America's premier authorities on healthcare and disease prevention, and a powerful advocate for a forceful response to threats to human health. Currently the senior fellow for global health at the Council on Foreign Relations, she is the author of “The Coming Plague: Newly Emerging Diseases in a World Out of Balance” and “Betrayal of Trust: The Collapse of Global Public Health.” She is the only person ever to have been awarded all three of the Big “Ps” of journalism: The Peabody, The Polk (twice), and The Pulitzer.

Garrett has written for many publications, including Foreign Affairs, Esquire, Vanity Fair, The Los Angeles Times, The Washington Post, and Current Issues in Public Health. She appears frequently on ABC Nightline, The Jim Lehrer NewsHour, The Charlie Rose Show, The Oprah Winfrey Show, and Dateline. She has the unique ability to make plain the science behind new threats to public health-both natural and man-made-and the political background that shapes the debate on this issue in America and around the world.

Hastings College, founded in 1882, is a private, four-year liberal arts institution affiliated with the Presbyterian Church (USA).
