Hastings College to host Ashanti African Music performance

A native of Accra, Ghana in West Africa, Michael Opoku will present an Ashanti African Music performance at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 9 in Perkins Auditorium. This event is free and open to the public.
Michael Opoku is a musician of many talents. He has been involved in numerous programs for schools and colleges internationally in Finland, London, Moscow, and in our very own Midwest. Michael teaches students of all ages giving them an education about African culture, religion, geography, and music. He has taught African History and Social Science in colleges and High Schools around the world, incorporating all aspects of his culture into his teaching. Michael has been doing artist in residence programs since 1989 in Finland and has been supporting himself doing residencies at Lincoln Public Schools and all over the Midwest for a number of years.
Hastings College, founded in 1882, is a private, four-year liberal arts institution affiliated with the Presbyterian Church (USA). A total of 64 majors in 32 areas of study and 12 pre-professional programs are offered to more than 1,190 students.
