Hastings College hosts annual “Play tough. Play pink.” event for breast cancer

The Hastings College Volleyball team will take on Doane College in a conference match at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 13 in Lynn Farrell Arena for the annual “Play tough. Play pink.” event recognizing Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Admission will be $3. The Hastings College Volleyball Pink Night is sponsored by Hastings College, Mary Lanning Memorial HealthCare and Dr. Jerry Seiler of Hastings.
The night will offer several special activities, among them “Kills for the Cure,” which invites individuals to pledge a donation per number of kills achieved during the game. There will be a raffle for “large prizes,” and every cancer survivor in attendance will receive a special gift. “Play tough. Play pink.” t-shirts are available for $5 and can be purchased online at www.hastings.edu/pink.
All admission, donations and raffle proceeds from this event will go to support local cancer care at the Morrison Cancer Center at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital and to the American Cancer Society’s Road to Recovery Program.
Before the game, the public is invited to participate in the YWCA’s Women Supporting Women 1- and 2-mile walk around Heartwell Park, starting at 6 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 13 at the Hastings College Gray Center (1100 N. Elm). Hastings College will hold a reception for walkers inside the Lynn Farrell Arena following the walk. Register for the walk by calling the YWCA at (402) 462-8821. Registration is $20 or $25 on walk day.
