Hastings College President Announces Athletic Director
Hastings College President Dr. Phil Dudley has announced that Associate Vice President for Administration Ian Roberts will take over as Athletic Director at Hastings College effective August 1, 2010.
“I deeply appreciate Ian’s willingness to serve as our athletic director during this presidential transition process,” President Dudley said. “He has been a superb employee, and I know he will do an excellent job managing our athletic programs.”
Roberts was inducted into the Hastings College Athletic Hall of Fame in 2002 for his impressive achievements as Assistant Coach for Bronco Football and for his work as offensive coach and defensive coordinator. He will replace Fran Hummel, who plans to retire at the conclusion of this academic year.
“I have a tough act to follow,” Roberts said. “Our Athletic Department is currently one of the elite programs in both the Great Plains Athletic Conference and the NAIA. I think that Fran has done an outstanding job as our Athletic Director, continuing to build on the foundation provided by our previous Athletic Directors, Dr. Boerigter and “Doc” Farrell.”
Roberts started at Hastings College in 1976 as the Director of the Physical Fitness Facility and Intramural Program. He was named the Director of Student Financial Aid and Assistant Football Coach in 1979, and, in 2005, Roberts became the Associate Vice President for Athletics and Administration. He will retain the position of Vice President for Administration and continue to work part-time with financial aid packaging and other administrative duties.
