Dec. 7 - Hastings College presents International Human Rights Month speaker Dr. Marjie Heier
Hastings College’s Amnesty International presents Dr. Marjie Heier at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 9 at French Memorial Chapel in honor of International Human Rights Month.
Dr. Heier will be discussing human rights in the medical field, her experience with Clinic with a Heart in Lincoln and her efforts to expand its reach into surrounding areas.
Clinic with a Heart provides free walk-in clinics staffed by medical and non-medical volunteers paid for with community donations. The program now has seven clinics each month, in four locations. The clinics provide medical, dental, physical therapy, vision services, chiropractic care and mental health referral for those who may not otherwise receive medical treatment.
Lincoln family physician Dr. Rob Rhodes founded Clinic with a Heart in 2003 following an inspiring medical mission trip to Mexico. Clinic with a Heart cares for more than 200 people each month with the help of nearly 430 volunteers.
Amnesty International is a grassroots organization that promotes the awareness and protection of basic human rights for all humans, regardless of race, religion, sexual orientation, age, etc.
