May 13, 2005 - Nineteen Hastings College seniors honored

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Hastings, Neb., May 13, 2005 -- Hastings College senior Valerie Nolan, Spencer, Neb., was named winner of the 2005 Bronco Award today at the annual Honors Convocation ceremony. The Bronco Award, established in 1924 by the editors of the Bronco yearbook, is the highest, non-academic honor Hastings College bestows.
In addition to Nolan, 18 seniors received the Who’s Who Award. This award, instituted at Hastings College in 1940, is presented to no more than 10 percent of the senior class. Students were chosen by a vote of the student body. A committee comprised of faculty and administration, and three members of the junior class, made the final selection. Citizenship and contributions to the overall college program were considered.
Who’s Who students include: David Brown, Sutton, Neb.; Alexis Bucy, Beatrice, Neb.; Amy Cerra, Omaha, Neb.; Louie Eckhardt, Hastings, Neb.; Annette Ekberg, Marsta, Sweden; Matt Fong, Lexington, Neb.; Andy Herrmann, Hastings, Neb.; Netanya “T” Jamieson, Colorado Springs, Colo.; Jaci Jenkins, Scottsbluff, Neb.; Joshua Koch, Eustis, Neb.; Michael Mahanes, Nebraska City, Neb.; Matt Miller, Omaha, Neb.; Kaleena Reeves, Brighton, Colo.; Travis Rodak, Bridgeport, Neb.; Amy Schmidt, Omaha, Neb.; Colette Schweers, Blair, Neb.; Bryce Wiebe, Cairo, Neb.; and Daniel Woodburn, Coffeyville, Kan. Valerie Nolan, daughter of Michael and Cindy Nolan, is an economics, business administration and history major. She was co-chair of the Student Association cultural events committee. An executive council member of the Public Relations Council, Nolan participates in Omicron Delta Epsilon economics honor society, Phi Alpha Theta history honor society, and Alpha Chi academic honor society. She was on the Dean’s List and worked on a theatre crew. In the spring of 2003, Nolan served in Kuwait with the Nebraska Army National Guard’s 100th Medical Battalion.
