In Moliere’s “The Misanthrope,” Alceste dislikes people. His strident belief that people should either be completely honest with each other or just as well not exist begins to offend his friends and drive away the woman he loves. Moliere, the Shakespeare of France, fills his story with soaring poetry, ridiculous characters, comical situations and the ultimate joy of seeing the foibles of humanity.
George White, professor and chair of Theatre Arts at Hastings College, is director and lighting designer, and Jim Fritzler, professor of Theatre Arts at Hastings College, is scenic designer. Costumes are by Margaret Marsh, adjunct instructor of Theatre Arts and English at Hastings College.
