April 22 - Group at Hastings College hosts immigration and refugee awareness dinner, talk
The Local and Global Community, a group of Hastings College students, is sponsoring an awareness dinner at 6:30 p.m., Thursday, April 23 in Hazelrigg Student Union, room C. Pastor Maria “Liz” Conner will speak on the theme of “Welcoming the Stranger.”
Pastor Liz Connor is the first female Latina ordained by the Nebraska Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. She pastors a predominately Latino congregation at Cristo Rey Lutheran Church in Omaha.
A short documentary, “Dying to Live” will be shown. The film takes an in-depth look at the migrant – who they are, why they leave their homes and what they face on their journey. It explores the places of conflict, pain and hope along the US-Mexican border.
Food will be provided by Hacienda Los Caporales, a local Mexican restaurant. The dinner is free of charge to sixty attendees. Please contact Sara Tall at Hastings College, stall@hastings.edu to reserve a place at this event.
