Hastings College hosts talks on the role of faith on campus
(Hastings, Neb.) – Two noted educators, Dr. Robert Nash and Dr. Patricia Nguyen, will hold a series of conversations and presentations about the role of faith in higher education on Tuesday, April 7 and Wednesday, April 8 at Hastings College.
The presentations are sponsored by the Religion in Life program with the support of the Artist Lecture Series at Hastings College.
Tuesday, April 7
3 p.m. – Coffee and conversation in the Steinhart Lounge
7:30 p.m. – Keynote Presentation: “Making Space for Faith and Meaning in Higher Education” in French Memorial Chapel.
Wednesday, April 8
10 a.m. – Chapel Worship in French Memorial Chapel
11:15 a.m. – Lunch and conversation in the Steinhart Lounge
Dr. Robert J. Nash is a professor in the College of Education and Social Services, University of Vermont, Burlington, where he specializes in philosophy of education, ethics, higher education and religion and spirituality. He holds graduate degrees in English, Theology/Religious Studies, Applied Ethics and Liberal Studies, and Educational Philosophy. He has published more than 100 articles, book chapters, monographs, and essay book reviews in many of the leading education journals. Among his recent books is the highly acclaimed How to Talk About Hot Topics on Campus: From Polarization to Moral Conversation.
Dr. Patricia Nguyen, currently a diversity and equity adviser at the University of Vermont, has just been named Associate Dean and Director for the Asian/Asian American Center at Cornell University. She has a passion for working with and empowering students from marginalized identities to find their voices through scholarship and community organizing. Currently, she and Dr. Nash are working on a book project together.
