Oct. 21, 2008 - Conley selected for Hastings College Tom McLaughlin Award

Linebacker Justin Conley, Bellevue, Neb., received the Hastings College 2007 Tom McLaughlin Award. Recipient of the Tom McLaughlin Award is the Most Valuable Player of the previous year’s Homecoming game.

Conley, who now resides in Omaha, had nine unassisted tackles and 12 assisted tackles for a total of 21 in the Bronco’s game against the Northwestern Red Raiders. He also had two tackles for a loss. The Broncos lost the game 31-7.

Paul Mierkiewicz, Hastings College had football coach, presented the award to Conley prior to Saturday’s Homecoming football game. 

“Tiger” Tom McLaughlin’s coaching career at Hastings College spanned 15 years. He was hired in 1949 as director of athletics, head football, basketball, and track coach, and was assistant professor of physical education. McLaughlin’s football coaching record was 71-40-8 from 1949 to 1962.  His 1954 team won the conference championship. A native of Hastings, Neb., McLaughlin graduated from Hastings High School in 1930 and from Hastings College in 1934.  In 1989, he was posthumously inducted into the Hastings College Athletic Hall of Fame.
