May 22, 2006 - Hastings College Commencement held May 20

            Hastings College’s 120th Commencement exercises were held Saturday, May 20, in Lynn Farrell Arena. Bachelor’s degrees were awarded to 227 students, and master of arts in teaching degrees were awarded to 23 students.            Featured speaker was Rick Ufford-Chase, moderator of the 216th General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church (USA), and co-founder and co-director of BorderLinks. He received an honorary doctor of divinity degree.             The Rev. Dr. Lee Wigert, professor of psychology, delivered the Baccalaureate sermon, Friday evening, May 19. He is a 1974 graduate of Hastings College.             Graduate honors, which are limited to the top 12 percent of the undergraduate class, were awarded to 27 seniors. An additional 44 seniors were cited for distinction in departmental studies.

            High distinction is awarded to seniors who have earned a 3.85 to 4.0 grade point average in their major area of study.  Distinction is awarded to seniors with at least a 3.7 grade point average in their major.
