May 17, 2006 - Hastings College receives $100,000 Hearst Foundation grant

Hastings College has received a $100,000 grant from The Hearst Foundation, Inc. to augment its Hearst Endowed Scholarship Fund. The grant is the third received by the college from The Hearst Foundation. Previous grants of $100,000 for the endowed scholarship fund were made in 1994 and 2002.

“We are tremendously grateful to The Hearst Foundation for this additional grant award,” said Dr. Phillip Dudley, Jr., president of Hastings College. “Over the past 10 years, the Hearst Endowed Scholarship Fund has provided financial assistance to many outstanding Hastings College students. We can now expand the scholarship program and serve even more students.” Since its establishment, the endowed fund has provided scholarships to students with demonstrated need who have excellent records of academic achievement and campus leadership. With this most recent addition to the endowed fund, the college will focus the program on scholarships for outstanding students majoring in teacher education, especially those who can help address current areas of teacher shortages.

The Hearst Foundation, Inc., founded in 1945 by philanthropist William Randolph Hearst, provides funding in the areas of education, health, social service and culture.
