2005 - 2006 Releases

May 3, 2006 - Hastings College named All-Steinway School

Steinway & Sons has named Hastings College an All-Steinway School. Representatives from Steinway & Sons will make a formal presentation to administration, faculty and students at the annual Music Honors Convocation, Monday, May 8, at 10 a.m., in Perkins Auditorium, Fuhr Hall of Music. The public is invited to attend, and a reception in the lounge will follow the convocation. All-Steinway Schools demonstrate a commitment to excellence by providing their students and faculty solely with pianos designed by Steinway & Sons. Hastings College shares this distinction with more than 47 other institutions, including New York’s Juilliard School and the Yale School of Music. The partnership between the Steinway company and Hastings College dates back to the 1950s. In November, 1956, the college added more than 30 Steinway pianos to its musical equipment collection, coinciding with the completion and dedication of Fuhr Hall of Fine Arts. (Renamed Fuhr Hall of Music in 1990.) Keynote speaker at the dedication was Charles G. Steinway, a member of the wholesale department of Steinway & Sons. He was a direct descendent of Henry Engelhard Steinway who founded the House of Steinway & Sons in New York City in 1853.
